Nominations close for Mayor of Foxton close at noon to-morrow. It comes to ns that Mr Alex. Speirs is to be nominated. If this be true, well and good, but if not, it behoves townspeople to see to the nomination of some other citizen willing to hold office. We almost feel that we will have to pray to someone or other to fill the Mayoral chair. In conclusion we must have a Mayor. Nothing but good reports reach us of the Levin combination and we hope to record a full house on Thursday next. Popular prices will be charged, the box clan and day sales, being made at L. Edwards, tobacconist. Horae owners will note that there are two events on the Wednesday afternoon programme of the Winter Show, Palmerston North. The competitions are leaping, for ponies 14 hands and under, to be ridden by boys not over I 5 years. First prize £3, second £2, third £l. Also a maiden hunters competition, first prize £lO, second £5, third £2. For horses that have never won a prize in any jamping competition. Entries close on June sth with Mr J. C. Lane, secretary, Palmerston North. Great interest is being taken in the Clarkson Road Cycle Race, to be run on June 4th. Entry forms are out conraining all particulars. The race will start from Fitzherbert road (Palmerston North) through Linton, Tokomaru, Shannon, to Levin, coach road to Foxton, to Sandou (tram route), to Feilding (via Mount Stuart), to Palmerston North (via Bunnythorne and Boundary road), finishing Boundary road and Rangitikei -street. The whole distance is about 8-5 miles. The entrance fee is fixed at 2s fid. acceptance Is fid entries to close on May 24th with the secretary, Palmerston North, Han j dicaps will be made known on May | 28th. Those Foxton cyclists who are j interested can secure all inforraa'iou , from the local agent. Liberal prizes j have been endowed, and the event should attract large entries. The gale of Saturday night last is said to have been the worst ever experienced in Foxton.
