Awahou Ball.
The Awahou Football Club's Ball was held at the Public Hall last night, a most enjoyable time being spent by those present. For some unaccountable reason, there were not more ladies present than comfortably filled the floor, whilst members of the sterner sex were there in abundance. However, the party indulged in the terpsichorean pastime until the early hours of the morning all thoroughly enjoying themselves. The hall looked pretty, decorated profusely as it was with evergreens and flags,—the Committee evidently having worked hard in this direction. Supper arrangements were in the hands of Mr Mark Perreau, and, needless to say, nothing was wanting on this score, every light delicacy being available, together with fruits. Mr J. Walls made an efficient M.C., whilst Mrs F. Walls presided at the piano in her usual style. At a suitable interval Mr E. G. Sutherland (secretary of the Football Executive) presented framed photographs of the Awahou Club to Mr and Mrs G. Simpson, Mr and Mrs H. Austin, and Mr and Mrs A. Laing. The gifts were presented on behalf of the Awahou Club, who wished to mark the appreciation of the kindly interest devoted to football by their guests. Messrs G. A, Simpson and H. Austin received the gifts on behalf of their wives and themselves, whilst the Misses Eaing accepted the framed photograph on behalf of their parents, Mr Sutherland having previously apologised for the unavoidable absence of Mr and Mrs Laing. Ringing applause accompanied the presentation of each gift. Mr Joe Jillett made a capable secretary, he being ably supported - by an energetic committee.
