However, we were pleased to notice that both past and present members of the School Committee assisted the teachers in getting the events off, and general satisfaction was recorded.
The Eastern Extension officials’ opinion is that the interruption in the cable between Sydney and the New Zealand cable station at Wakapuaka is not due to volcanic or earthquake dis turbances. They state that one cable is broken and the other is very faulty, Both being interrupted, at the same time la merely a coincidence. Something like a “bull” was perpetrated by a delegate at the Trades Conference, to the evident amusement of his fellows. In an impassioned speech on a question of nationalisation he declared that nothing oould be done “ until we get a Government in sympathy with us, which I’m pleased to say we have got.” We have seen some runaway sports victories, but not like the race at the school sports yesterday, where a girl completely left all the other competitors standing in the carrying book on head event. On examination of the winner’s head, the problem was easily solved. Her head-piece was quite flat, and the book rested nicely without fear of falling.
