The Death of Carl M. Johnson.
THE INQUEST.
An inquest touching the death of Carl Magnus Johnson was held at the local courthouse ofJ Tuesday* afternoou, before Alf. Fraser, Esq., J.P., (Coroner), and the following jury ; Messrs E. Howe (foreman), J. Frew, J. Osboldstone, T. Betty, W. Liddell, and W. Baker. Dr Bennett, sworn, deposed—A little after five on Monday evening I was called to see a man who had dropped in the street; he had been taken to the back of the police station, where I saw him; he was then dead ; I made a post mortem examination this morning; the brain was healthy; I examined the heart and found it enlarged, with fatty degeneration. The cause of death, in my opinion, was fatty degeneration of the heart. His liver was diseased, being very large and soft. The other organs were fairly healthy for a man of his age. By Constable Whitehouse ‘ A man in that state would be liable to fall at any moment, and would be beyond human aid. Earnest H. Healey, chemist, deposed : Shortly after five o’clock yesterday, on looking out of my shop door, I saw Charlie Johnson fall down ; I rushed out to him,
and found him to be unconscious and snoring ; he had the appearance of being in an apoplectic fit, and he died before anything could be done.
This was all the evidence, and the jury found a verdict in accordance with the medical testimony.
The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, deceased being interred in the Avenue Messrs R. Gray and Underwood, of the Plymouth Brethern, conducted the burial service.
