Floods in Queensland.
VAST EXPANSE OF WATER.
TRAFFIC STOPPED AND PROVISIONS SCARCE.
EXCITING EXPERIENCES.
Brisbane, March 10. The township of Windorah (about 780 miles from Brisbane) is surrounded by flood waters. A boat containing three men and provisions capsized. The occupants reached laud by swimming a mile. Two went to a station three miles distant in search of relief, swimming most the distance while the third remained on an island two days without food or fire. He suffered great agonies from sand-flies and mosquitoes before he was rescued. The loss of provisions was serious, as none were procurable in the neighbourhood.
The Thompson river isjjin high flood, and the Longreach river is still rising slowly. The country adjoining is a vast expanse of water. Communication is cut off excepting from the westward by boat. Provisions are scarce. Fifteen inches of rain has fallen at Winton (1018 miles north-west of Brisbane.) Wheel traffice has been suspended.
Rations are scarce outside of the centres, pigweed being used as food.
The railway from Normaton to Croydon is still under water.
