Many persons of Columbia were killed or injured by a very severe earthquake. King Edward, in receiving Rev. Wm. Catitle, secretary of the Church Army, sent his kindly greetings to the Church Army. He added, “ I desire to encourage your good emigrants. Wish them from me every. happiness that work can produce. They are still in my dominions, and besides ’ benefiting themselves and their families they are benefiting the whole Empire.” [The Church Army is a church mission to working-men, founded in 1882, directed by a Committee acting under a Council, amongst whom are three Archbishops. There are upwards of 1000 trained workers constantly at work in the metropolis and provinces. The work is carried on under _ several departments-—the evangelist, the social, and the emigration. The latter included and Emigration Test Farm in Surrey, where the able-bodied men and youths, after being tried, receive practical instruction in farm work, and are then emigrated to the colonies. Between 30,000 and 40,000 cases are dealt with annually, 60 per cent of all received turning out well.] Pkkin, February 16. The German Legation at Pekin has procured an additional field piece. The Legations have been informed trouble is imminent. According to some the trouble is largely anti-dynastic.
