Manawatu County Council.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held on Wednesday. There were present —Messrs J. G. Wilson (chairman), Dalton, Barber, Masters, and McKenzie. CORRESPONDENCE. From Geo. Kendall, urging Council to apply for the yjho due from Government For the damage done to the Main Drain road.— Suggested action already taken. From Department of Public Health, stating To per cent had been decided as the Comity’s contribution to the maintenance of the infectious diseases hospital at Palmerston.
From Foxton Borough Council forwarding resolution agreeing to the suggestion of this Council that two-thirds of the cost of maintenance of the proposed boundary roads between the F'oxton Borough and the Manawatu County Council. Council’s objection to alteration of boundaries withdrawn.
From the Valuation Department, forwarding amount for revising valuation roll for the County. —To b 6 further considered. From D. Wilson, Rongotea, claiming ns6d for breakages on the train. Railway authorities State consignments delivered in good order. REPORTS. The tramway sub-committee reported that it had gone into the question of the working of the tramway, including many ways of increasing the traffic, but could not recommend any change at present. The Council might consider the advisability of running the tram at more frequent intervals than at present when the busy Season comes on next year, especially if there is any metal to take down the line. A new time-table
might be printed showing the advantages to the ratepayers and * . circulated as widely as possible amongst business people. The Tramway Manager reported as follows for the month :—Credit balance, ,£B3 2s rod, a result largely due to the successful special trains in connection with the Bulls and Foxton races. Fares for the month totalled ,£63 18s. Trouble was still experienced at the Ohakea siding, causing a rush at the Rongotea yards. The advisability of procuring more railway rails was suggested, tenders to be considered at next meeting. The total receipts from the tram for the month was ,£169 2s 7d ; expenses, wages £sg, hire of trucks £ll 10s, Westport Coal Coy. £lO 10s, the total with sundries, making £'Bs 19s gd. The Treasurer reported the riding and other accounts as follows : —•Loan account, cr. ,£627 15s ml, General account, dr. ,£2963 19s Bd, net debit balance, £2336 3s gd. Riding accounts ; —Sanson, dr. £l3 los Bd, Mt, Stewart, cr. £27 17s gd, Waitohi, cr. £lO2 4s fid, Rongotea, dr. £132 os gd, Carnarvon, cr. ,£6B los Sd, Kawa Kawa, dr. £SB 17s Bd, Awahou, cr. £SO 5 s iidThe tender of R. S. Tippler, at 8s 4d per yard, was accepted for the supply and delivery of 200 yards metal on the Foxton-Shan-non road.
Mr H. D. Robinson was appointed registrar of dogs for the County, excluding the township of Rongotea, at a fee to be 2s fid per dog for sheep, cattle and rabbit dogs and 5s for all other dogs. Ordinary accounts were passed for payment and the meeting terminated. At a special meeting held subsequently it was decided to hold a special meeting on March 14th for the purpose of raising a loan of £250 to purchase land for a road and constructing same leading to Shannon Ferry.
