W. N. Willis.

Sydney, Feb 13

The Government has received confirmation of the dismissal by the Supreme Court at Durban of the application for the extradition of W. N. Willis. The dismissal is based on the f rounds that there was no evience to show that a Magistrate in Natal had powers similar to those possessed by a Bow Street Magistrate, and their was no local statute giving a Magistrate special jurisdiction under the Fugitive Offenders Act.

The decision is a far-reaching one, as it created Natal a sanctuary for fugitives until fresh legislation is passed.
