GEE! WHIZ! THE “BUZZ’ OF THE METROPOLIS.

ELECTRIC LIGHT AND FIRE PREVENTION LOOMING IN THE DISTANCE. Those of a progressive mood will be pleased to learn that the Council of last evening were found in a spirit of venture. Our representative was not dreaming, but can vouch for the truth of his statement that the buzz of a metropolis seemed to loom largely in the distance when he heard the Mayor exclaim, at one portion of the evening, that the electric-light scheme as explained by Cr Stiles seemed to come more within our means. Fact! Don’t build any castles, ratepayers, but if all information received so far proves correct, and Councillors generally overcome the struggle, perham even the ‘ ‘ back roads and bridges ’ ’ Councillors may not be able ti prevent the installation of an electric light service in our midst within a few months. There k no reason why this should not he so, if the scheme exnbincd by Cr Stiles last night is all it is clabm- ! to be. It is said to be worhe ’ cheaply, providing a good light, and at small expense. Howevo-, we shall wait events, and further information. When the Mayoput his motion re the water work: and fire prevention scheme, he briefly explained in answer to Councillors that the motion wa; something to work on. In sh ut it was something to talk about. And it may be said to have serve 1 its purpose, for it did cause much comment. The usual schemes were conversed on, but we are pleased to say the argument was finally of an effective nature. Council have decided to put the question of improvements to the poll of ratepayers, and those interested would do well to studv every phase of the question and so take part in Foxton’s march towards progression. Perhaps after all we shall witness Foxton emerge from its present state of stagnancy into one of activity. However, we shall live in hopes, and will have more to say on the subject. But the tingle in our ears resembles “ the buzz of the Metropolis.” Can it be true that the old adage “ Future events cast their shadows before ” applies in the present instance ?
