The Needs of Australia.
London, Feb. 7. Mr O. C. Beal, ex-President of uie Ausiicuiciii Cuaiuuer 01 Manuuctares, read a paper entitled “ Imperial Immigration ” before tbe Society of Arts. He delated the oversea colonies would concede preference to the Motherland and were calmly awaiting a response from Britain. He explained the stupendous productive possibilities of Australia and dealt with the need for immigration -of skilled manufacturers and a constant stream of men of the British race. While the Australian workers would not welcome excessive immigration calculated to reduce the standard of living, they would heartily welcome those coming to help forward the Australian nation by introducing diversified occupations.
