’•’OXTON C. C. v. THE DEBATERS
This match was plaved yesterday in ’•iTfilv weather, and resulted in a com. Portable win for the Foxton club by an '■tnings and seven runs to spare. The D haters had put their best team in the lield, but the other club had received a valuable acquisition in the person of Mr Chard, lately arrived from Queensland, and whose bowling and Wtin<r were the main factors in winung the match for his side. The Beaters went in first but Messrs Chard’s and Alf. Morgan’s bowling was very deadly and they were all out for SO runs, T. Dunn with 11 being the only one 10 get into double figures. The Foxton ■dub did not start too auspiciously, 6 wickets being down for 18 runs, but a useful stand bv Messrs Chard and Nye, who respectively made 23 and 32 put a different aspect on the game and the innings finally closed for 68. The bowling of the Debaters was very good <nd not to be trifled with, and their defiling also deserves a word of praise. In their second innings they found their opponents bowling too good and just ■succeeded in passing their first effort making 31 runs, of which Betty made 11 and not out. Messrs Reade and Wilson again umpired. There was an impression amongst some of the players that it is the correct thing to pick up the ball when in play and hand it to a nlaysr. This is a very polite and courteous action, but it is against the rules, and they are apt to be given out by the umpire if appealed to. Following are the full scores:— .
