A Great Educational Scheme.
London, Feb. 5.
The final report of the Departmental Committee of the Royal College of Science recommends the establishment of a group of associated colleges of science and technolcgy where _ the highest specialised instruction may be given and the fullest equipment nrovided for the most advanced training and research becoming the chief technical schools of the Empire. The group will include a social college, a science college, the Royal School of Mines, a central technical college, and ten departments to be established at South Kensington. The Comraissioners of the 1851 Exhibition are willing to grant the unoccupied portion of their estate and the Government offer the buildings at South Kensington to be used as a college of science with an annual grant of £20,000. The London County Council will probably grant a similar annual contribution. The co-operation of the university of London Council and the City and Guilds Institute is oractically secured. The Wern-her-Beit gift of £IOO,OOO is available for buildings and initial equipment. A governing body of r orty is recommended, one-fourth being Government nominees.
