Fire Brigades’ Conference.
Nelson, January 29
The annual conference of the United Fire Brigades Association commenced yesterday. Over ninety delegates were present. The annual report mentioned that the demonstration at Ihmed” last year caused a heavy drain cthe funds of the Association, lad the Government, with its usiu>’ generosity to the Association, ha' increased the annual subsidy tbi year to ,£4OO, and thanks were expressed for the treatment received. Three brigades joiner’ the Association last year, _ the total number of brigades affiliated now being 95. Reference was made to the Fire Brigades Bill. It was stated that determined efforts would be made to have this legislation placed on the statute boob next session.
The Mayor of Nelson and Mr J. Graham, waited on the Conference and accorded the visitors a hearty welcome to Nelson.
A vote of condolence was passed to the widow of the late Mr T. Waterworth, Napier, a past president of the Association. A vote of thanks was passed to the Government for increasing the fubsidy. _________
