WRECK OF A STEAMER.

The Pacific ..Coast Company’s 'steamer Valencia has been wrecked at Cape Beale, on the West Coast of Vancouver Island
At the spot where the vessel struck, the southern entrance _to Barclay Sound, rocky cliffs rise precipitately 400 ft from the water. Assistance has been sent, but, as far as is known at present,.-there are only fifteen survivors. The Valencia carried a crew of sixty-four, and there were ninetyfour passengers on board. The boats launched from the steamer swamped, and some heartrending scenes took place. One woman, in trying to hand her two children to their father, who was in a boat, dropped them into the sea. She jumped overboard, in her despair, and was drowned, her husband also drowning in an effort te save her.
