AEEEGED DEFAMATION. Sydney, Jan. 16. Sir William McMillan has issued writ claiming /5000 damages rgainst Sir William Eyne, Federal Minister for Customs. Sir William McMillan states that Sir William Eyne some time ago, in the luncheon room_ of the Federal Parliament Buildings, practically stated that the firm of McArthur and Co., of which Sir William McMillan is a member, purchased hats from a manufacturer in Sydney and labelled them “Made in England.” A letter was sent to Sir William Eyne, stating that this was absolutely untrue and giving him a chance to explain. Sir William Eyne did not reply to this or to subsequent letters.
