NOTES. Geo. Price intends vistiting Westralia during the winter months, and if any meetings are in progress, he will possibly attend them. H. Telford, who used to train Stepson, is having four boxes erected at Awapuni, and has a string ready to take in hand. He is painstaking, and should do well. Local horses engaged at the Foxton meeting are being sent along in fast style. Amongst the n, they should register a stake or two.
We understand Alf. Wright has Lord Soult in hand again. “"Geraint ” in Manawatu Standard, throws some light on the nonprogressiveness of the Rangitikei Racing Club. He says :~The Rangitikei Racing Club’s officials have been blamed in some quarters for not showing more progressiveness and bringing their appointments up-to-date. Considering, however, that the club has only about another year’s lease of the course to run, it is not to be expected that it is going to spend a lot of money on the ground at the present juncture. It is neither want of enterprise nor shortage of cash that has led the club to defer the expenditure necessary to make the course right up-to-date in every particular. Financially, the club, which is one of the oldest racing institutions in the colony, is in a very sound position, and providing they secure a renewal o ; the lease or make other satisfactory arrangements the officials are not likely to hesitate in making the course one of the best appointed on the coast. As a matter of fact, the club has three more meetings on the course before the lease expires, and their action as regards necessary improvements depends upon arrangements arrived at with regard to the future tenure of the present course.
The weights for our local meeting are made known to-day. Nonette, with any weight he is likely to receive, should account for the Foxton Cup. He must go on improving, and our track should suit him.
Hughie McPhee is keeping Mr Eaing’s charges going in view of future meetings. Pleased to notice young Percy Rowe in the saddle again, apparently quite recovered from his recent accident.
Dalkey may be worth following at Foxton. For a hurdle beginner, he shaped well at Bulls, and must improve.
Auratus and Solution, on the Bst mark, read nice for the Wellington Cup, and one of these may provide the winner. There is every likelihood of a record attendance at Foxton races on January 22nd, Anniversary Day. The new appointments and general improvements must add to the comfort and enjoyment of the visitors.
