South Africa. A NEW ZELANDER’S VIEWS. Sydney, January 9. Mr. W. Gordon Hutchison, son of.Mr George Hutchison, formerly VT.H.R. for Patea, New Zealand, has arrived here from South Africa by the steamer Somerset, en route for New Zealand. He states that South Africa holds no immediate prospects foi Australasians. The country is in the grip of the mine-owners, business is stagnant, and things about as bad as they can be. He speaks strongly against the importation of Chinese labour. Mr Hutchison, senr., is winding up his affairs preparatory to returning to New Zealand.
