Monday’s Amusements.

The Palmerston North Friendly Societies have a splendid programme of sports to entertain the public on Monday at Victoria Park, and, given fine weather, a large crowd of visitors can be expected. The different events should fill well. A band will 6e in attendance, while Langley Bros, have charge of the refreshment booth.

RANGITIKEI RACES. The Bulls races are bound to be largely patronised by Foxton sports. Racing should be of the best, and given fine weather, the gathering should be successful. The train leaves Foxton at g a.m. connecting with train at Himatangi, and returning to Foxton at 8.30 in the evening. Following nags should run well: — Flying.—Captain Shannon or St. Claitner.

Maiden.—Splendid Idea or Windy. Open Hurdles.—Midia, Carnarvon Hack.—Marsellaise or Apa. Cop.—Black Reynard or Nonette. Hack Hurdles.—Aplti. Open Welter.—Captain Shannon. Hack Welter.—Bonheur.

There will doubtless be a large crowd on the Manawatu Beach, while boating parties are likely to be numerous.

The Waikanae (Manawatu Line) people run a Hack race-meeting on Monday, and a good day’s sport is promised. Entries have been good, while stakes are fair. A fee of £$ 5s has been fixed for bookmakers, who have to deposit with the plub as a guarantee of good faith. Amongst the horses engaged, we notice the names of Bonheur, General Stoessel, and Te Kanui.
