Foxton Athletic Club.
A special meeting of the Athletic Club Committee was held at Laing’s Hotel on Thursday evening, there being present:—Messrs E. G. Sutherland (in the chair), J. Frew, J. Thompson, F. Hadfield, L. Furrie, J. Jillett, and H. Healey (treasurer).
The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. \ . A rough financial estimate was submitted relating to the late sports meeting, which showed that owing no Eubtto the large increase in prize money provided, and a loss of about £3 on guaranteeing the Sandon tram, the Club can only expect to clear about <63 from the day’s outing. The concert profits amounted to over £g, and the Entertainers, who provided same, were extended a hearty vote of thanks.
Messrs Healey and Frew ware appointed to choose a token to be presented to the secretary, whose work at the late meeting was strongly eulogised by the committeemen. A deputation was appointed to wait on the Council and ask to have the commission of gate takings rebated until the Athletic Club recoup their £25 spent on the cycling track. Members generally seemed to realise that to make our sports meeting attractive, novelty races and sideshows would have to be provided, and arrangements will probably be made for these at next gathering. All accounts were passed for payment. Votes oi thanks to the chair, and to Mr Laing for the use of the room, concluded the meeting.
