Wanganui School Exhibition.

The exhibition ot technical and school work in Wanganui was opened on Monday last in the Drill-shed by Mr Bagnall, Mayor af Wanganui, Appropriate speeches were made by the Mayor, Mr Bridge, chairman of the Education Board, Mr Hogan, M.H.R., Mr Bruce, and Mr Gray (Chief Inspector of Schools). The exhibition is held in the Technical School Buildings, the Avenue, and consists of exhibits from the technical, high, and primary schools in the Wanganui district. It includes cookery, dress-making, needle-work, modelling, nature specimens, wood ■ carving, wood-work, brush-work, writing, etc., etc. The object of the Exhibition is, we are given to understand, the promotion of manual and technical work, nature study, etc., throughaut the district, and to enable not only teachers and children, but people generally to see the school work that is being done in the out districts and back blocks as well as in (he town centres. The exhibition as a whole is marvellously fine, and we have no hesitation in saying that many ot the exhibits compare very favourably indeed with similar specimens brought over by Mr Gray from his American tour. We were please to note that the exhibits from the Foxton school have gained several certificates of merit, some of the first ■ind some of the second class, and the drawing and Christmas card work have gained special notice. When the exhibition is over and the awards have been notified in regular form by the Education Board, we will have pleasure in priming the results. About 50 children and 16 adults visited the Exhibition from Foxton on Monday last. As a rather heavy guarantee was fixed by the railway authorities for running the " special,” we fear that the local school committee w ll have to make geod a considerable deficiency.
