Cricket.

FOXTON v. DEBATERS.

The first meeting between the above Clubs, which took place yesterday, was looked forward to with interest by their respective Supporters, as in the event of the Debaters being successful it would vest the contest for the premiership with a greater amount of inu-'vit. From a cricket point of view it was a disappointment, but as a game it was exciting. The Foxton Club, in their second venture, who only wanted 8 runs to win, did not Succeed till they had lost five wickets in the attempt. Great praise must be especially given to Bert Shadbolt, who in the second innings of the Debaters, effected three splendid catches. Both sides, as will be seen by the scores below, did not make large figures, but this was caused by the long, grass in the outfield. It is a pity that the authorities do not get it cut without delay.
