Manawatu Herald. THURSDAY, DECEMBER 7, 1905. Death of Mr Job Vile.

Quite a gloom was cast over the whole of the Manawatu Electorate last evening, when it became known that Mr Job Vile, the sitting member for Manawatu and a candidate for the seat at yesterday’s election, had died suddenly at Marton. It is said the cause of death was heart disease. However, the receipt of , the news turned the usual good humour prevalent at election time into profound sorrow and regret, and robbed the contest of a large amount of interest. A mass meeting was formed in Main street, Foxton, and a motion of condolence passed and forwarded to the wife and family of the deceased. We also tender our heartfelt sympathy to all friends and relatives in their bereavement. Deceased was in his 60 year, being bom in Somersetshire, England, ahd Was educated ill & Ednaon Board school. When he arrived in the colony with his parents in 1856, he lived at theHutt for two years, and the family then went to the Wairarapa where they became prominent in local matters. _ Mr Job Vile in 1872 started in business in Masterton as a coach proprietor, and he established services 'between Wellington and Wairarapa, Pahiatua and Woodville, and still later between Hawera, Manaia, /Opunake, Parihaka, and New Plymouth. He was one of the prime movers in the inauguration and proclamation of Pahiatua as a borough, and was its first Mayor. He. was also the first chairman, and could certainly claim to be one of the fathers of Pahiatua. Mr Vile had also held other positions in other local bodies, and was a faithful temperance advocate. Mr Vile acquired a Government holding at Pukenui in 1902, which he had made his home. When only a short time in the district, his popularity was plainly evidenced by his defeat of Mr John Stevens for the Manawatu seat at the 1902 elections. In oolitics, Mr Vile supported Mr Massey’s policy, and certainly was a fearless Opposition advocate.
