The Wearing of the Blue.
The following bard, contributed by a New Zealander who believes ia bis liberty, may form interesting reading : Ahrah, Paddy dear, oh do you hear The news that’s going round, That Barley will soon forbid To grow upon the ground. They’re howling Prohibition, And they’re making it quite cleir They’ll for certain stop our freedom, And rob us of our Beer, The rising generation, faith I cannot understand, A stream oi milk and pure cold water Seems running through the land. John Bull was reared on Beer and-Beef la good old days of yore ; And gained to r us our British fame That’s sung from Shore to Shore.
Chorus. Oh, the wearing of the Blue, the wearing of the Blue, They’ll tax both men and women For the Wearing ot the Blue. I met our Dick the other night And took him by the hand, And Dick says I’m leaving yon, Geod-bye to Wonderland. You can have your milk and water, And all your Ginger Pop, I go to dear old Ireland And regain my malt and hops. The freedom of your country, Dick, Ahrah, then it is devine, When the poor hardworking grafter Can’t get his drop of wine. For the British boast is freedom, Wherever he may be, Just the same at home in England, So far across the sea. Chorus. That ranting Tommy Taylor crew Don’t care a single pin About the. British working man, While they get beer and gin. Since the women got the franchise, The last of Johnny's fads, The House is on the downward grade, Ther's trouble for ns lads ; They’re sending me 1 to Parliament Who should be in the stock*, And evident the end will be. They’ll spill us on the rocks. If the poor hard working toiler, On one day in the week, Takes two pints on Saturday night Before he's time to spenk, There’s a blister out ngin him. And a forty shilling fine, For being found inside the pub, After it is ylosing time.
Chorus. So roll up men and women too, Don’t touch the line on top ; Demand yourrights, your Britisrights, Swim out for “ Malt and Hops.”
