Russian Horrors, HORRIBLE CRUELTIES. THE KISHINEFF MASSACRE. ST* Petersburg, Nov., 13. The mob at Kishiueff placed a ommber of Jews in barrels studded with nails. These barrels were then trundled until the occupants were dead. Two hundred shop's and 230 houses were destroyed at Ekaterinoslay. ScVenty-eight Jews were lulled Mid 160 wounded. %e Jews are leaving St. Petersburg and other Jewish centres, many abandoning lucrative businesses. The Times’ St. Petersburg correspondent states that the alarmist reports as to a general massacre of the Jews and foreigners are grossly misleading. The Jewish outrages are unlikely to recur when the authorities, police and clergy support the reform movement. The foreigners are perfectly safe. Seven thousand respectable inf habitants, including many foreigners, are fleeing from the city. WIDESPREAD SYMPATHY. The Archbishop of Canterbury has telegraphed to the Metropolitan of St. Petersburg sympathising with his troubles and praying for the success of the efforts of the Church to prevent outrages. The Times’ St. Petersburg correspondent says the outrages and massacres of the Jews are the direct outcome of the teachings of M.M. Plehve’s and Pobiedonosteff’s regime—that all Liberals and Jews were the avowed enemies of Russia. Mass meetings at Johannesburg, Capetown, Bloemfontein and East London, have urged Britain and the other Powers to exercise their influence to prevent the Jewish atrocities at St. Petersburg. OFFICERS SHOT. St. Petersburg advices state that Several officers have been courtmartialled at Kronstadt and shot for donning civilian dress and fleeing from the city during the riots, A list of mysterious origin is in circulation in Odessa containing the names of 100 prominent citizens, whose assassination is said to be contemplated. A WOMAN LEADS THE RIOTERS. During the recent riots at Reval, a widow named Linda, dressed in red, led the rioters. When they had assembled in the square the woman mounted a lamp post and shouted defiance to the Governor’s warning that unless the mob dispersed in 15 minutes the troops would fire. Two volleys were then fired and Linda was shot dead, one hundred and nine rioters were fatally injured, and 26 others wounded. OFFICIALS CAUSED THE DISORDERS. Several of the Czar’s aides have been sent with drastic powers to ; restore order in the Tamboff region and to assume command of the droops, police and Government and municipal officers. Count de Witte declares he has Undoubted proofs that the Provincial authorities instigated the disturbances in the Orel province. REVOLT IN GEORGIA. Twenty-four thousand Georgians, armed with modern rifles, hold Georgia, despite the fact that three Russian forces are converging upon them. It is stated at St. Petersburg that two army corps are required to reconquer them.
