Manawatu Rowing Club.
Our readers will be pleased to hear that the committee of the Manawatu Rowing Club is meeting with great ■* success in its efforts towards the resuscitation of the Club. It must be remembered that formerly . the old club was very strong, both aff regards membership and prowess, its crews having several times returned to Foxton from regattas with championship honours. In those days every prominent man in the town supported the club, a fact which materially assisted its financial portion. However, these old members fell dflf< and their places remained vacant, funds became low, and during the last seven years the dub has been languishing in oblivion—a condition gfeatly to be tfepiored. It is mite inex;d} cabie as to how such a state «f a&to? came to pass. There being so Many »jP°“® mon m Foxton one would itbink I-hc club would flourish.
The present committee i* detet> mined to bring the club up to if* old! standard, and earnestly appeals tc* residents for support. The membership bate increased 50 per cent this season, add it is estimated that there will be quite sixt/members by Christ* mas. It is an encouraging sign to see tn» racing skiffs again on the river,, and iw the races at the opening of the season some exciting finishes may be expected* For those who have not sufficient experience to go out in the outriggers, two races id the pleasure boats have been arranged, the winners to be rewarded with medals kindly donated by the captain, treasurer, secretary, add a member of the committee. Those who mfftSd entering are requested to scud in names to th* secretary. If sufficient interest fc aroused per* haps the club would setf its wa Y inaugurate several swimming races. Those who are willing to compete are asked to communicate witil the secretary.
The public are invited to attend at the wharf on the afternoon of December 6th (opening day), when an afternoon’s amusement will be provided free, gratis, aild all for nothing.
