Tragedy at Asburton.

TWO PEOPLE DEAD. Ashburton, Nov 13. A tragic occurrence took place in Ashburton on Sunday night about eight o’clock. Mrs Lee, a resident of Alleaton, a suburb of Ashburton, was on her way home from church, when she was shot with a revolver by James Espy, her next door neighbour. She died almost immediately. Espy then went inside and shot himself dead. The tragedy occurred near Mrs Lee’s own gate, Mrs Lee was a widow aud Espy was unmarried. Both were about forty-five. Espy, who was not altogether sound in his mind, desired Mrs Lee to marry him, but she declined. Recently they had a Court case over some money, Espy being the loser. An inquest was held yesterday.
