Foxton Lawn Tennis.

OPENING OF THE SEASON.

Fine weather favoured the Foxton Lawn Tennis Club yesterday afternoon for their opening of the 1905 season at the local Court.

Mr B. G. Gower (Mayor), in a few appropriate remarks, declared the season open, and wishing the Club every success. He also presented last ssason’s prize winners with their trophies, viz.—-Miss G. Wanklyn, a racquet and ball presented by F. W. Frankland for winner of the ladies singles; Mr W. Edwards, a racquet, presented by Mr A. Fraser to winner of the gents singles. The winners of the mixed doubles proved to be Miss G. Wanklyn and Mr Marshall, the former receiving a very handsome dressing case presented by Mr 0. Robinson, and the latter a writing cage, presented by Mr G. Stiles.

There was an unusual crowd of spectators present, and great interest taken in the afternoon’s proceedings. As usual, the ladies were in evidence providing afternoon tea, which proved to be very appetising and acceptable.
