Mr Alfred Saunders, who has heart in failing health for some time, died at Christchurch at four o’clock on Saturday afternoon. Deceased at different times was a member of the House of Representatives for Waimea, Cheviot, Lincoln, and Selwyn. On learning of his death, the Premier moved in the House, “ That the House desires to place on record its high sense of the distinguished services rendered to New Zealand by the late Alfred Saunders, and its appreciation of his valuable services as a member of the House of Representatives, and its recognition of his works as a public man in Nelson and Canterbury, and as contributor to the literature of the colony ; and tenders to the raemcers of his family its heartfelt sympathy in their irreparable loss,” Mr Seddon spoke at some /ength in terms of high praise ot the unsd’fish and distinguished services ot the "late Mr Saunders.
