Foxton Athletic Club.
The committee of the Foxton Ath letic Club met at Laing’s Family Hotel on Tuesday evening, there being present—Messrs E. G. Sutherland (chairman), L. Furrie, M. Perreau, J. Frew, }. Jillett, J. Thompson, E. Howe, F. Hadfield, R. Baker, E. Healey (treasurer), and F. Wbibley (Secretary.) The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A local cyclist was reported for having referred to the Club Committee in anything but congratulatory terms whilst members of the said Committee were in the act of improving the cvcle track on a recent date. The conduct of the gentleman in quesfon was severely criticized, and it was finally decided, on the motion of Mr J. Jillett, seconded by Mr L. J. Furrie, that the secretary write him to the effect that the Committee takes exception to his remarks. The Foxton Borough Band were engaged to play at the sports on the terms submitted, the Band to sub mit their musical programme to the Athletic Club Committee.
The matter of procuring different coloured sashes for competitors in the sprint events was dealt with, and Messrs Furrie and the Secretary were deputed to purchase same. Messrs Healey and Perreau were authorised to interview Mr Barnard, jeweller, re the purchase of bracelets and brooch as trophies. Mr Fred. Martin’s name was added to the committee.
Mr Furrie brought up the matter of accommodation for competitors, the speaker contending that the shed at present in use was too small and totally inadequate to meet demands. Messrs Jillett and the Secretary were told off to interview Mr H. Thynne with reference to securing a tent for the day of the sports. Many donations were reported as having been received, amongst them being C. T. Easton £2 2s, W. Walden, J. Vile, and G, Gower £1 is each, T. Havwood 10s 6d.
Many members tickets had been sold since last meeting, and the whole committee were urged to make a special effort during the coming week to add to the members list. Minor matters in connection with the track were dealt with, and one small account was passed for payment.
The Secretary’s action re advertising sports in the Levin paper was endorsed.
Messrs Healey, J. Thompson, J. Frew, and J,. Jillett were appointed to assist at doors at the concert. Votes of thanks to the chair and to Mr Laing for the use of the room concluded the meeting.
