THE WARENAMBOOL TO MELBOURNE EVENT. J. ARNST PUNCTURES HIS TYRE. Melbourne, September 30. The Warrnambool to Melbourne road race, of 165 miles, brought out J 54 starters. Heavy rain fell throughout the night, and the day was dull with the roads wet and heavy. The result was—W. Hawley (of Victoria), 25mm start, Ist; R. Finlay (of Victoria), 50mm start, 2nd; E. J Turner (of Victoria), 50mm, 3rd. Hawley beat Finlay and Turner, who eamo in practically together, by 10 minutes. Hawley’s time was 7 hours jmmin aCsec, which was also the fastest for the journey. Neilson was the most prominent of Nbw Zealand’s representatives and finished eighth. Hunn and Walsh who finished together, were twentieth. Falls were numerous in the road race, j. Arnst, the New Zealander, had an arm injured. J. Arnst punctured his tyre when passing throngh Werribee, but he was practically out of the race.
