Montgomery’s Famous Pictures.

On Tuesday night next the above popular company will appear at Foxiou. Some few weeks ago Mr Edmund Montgomery cabled to his London agents for a large collection of the very latest and most up-to-date novelties in the moving picture line. The order came to hand by the last Frisco mail, and many of the subjects are said to lie perfect triumphs in high-class cinematography. Most of the films are of great length and varied in Character. “A Trip Up Mount Blanc" (in 18 scenes), is considered to be one of the most difficult of biograph achievements. “The Life of Mary Antionette," from Queen to scaffold is a beautiful historical series, and in order to secure the origiual surroundings the palace, Petit Triauon at Versailles, was closed for three days while the photographs were being taken. Those of a sensational nature include, “ The Daring American Bank Burglary," “ Tampering with the Derby Favourite,” while sporting patrons will also be interested in “The Life of a Racehorse " from foal to winning post. The new collection is especially strong in comedy, scenes calculated to entirely upset the gravity of audiences. Among them are “ The Absent-Mind *d Beggar,” “ Bi'l Bailey’s Surprise,” “ Sandy’s Bath," that great fun-maker, “ The Lost Child," “The Ups and Downs of Murphy,” and many others. The North Island repertoire will include a representation of the popular play, “The Sign of the Cross ”by the late Wilson Barrett. A popular feature of Mr Montgomery’s entertainments are the illustrated American story ballads. He was the first to introduce these in New Zealand seven years ago, and since then has presented some eighty new songs with illustrations, A new selection of twelve songs has been secured for tin forthcoming tour.
