Alleged Slander.
EASTON v. SHADBOLT. The civil case, F. Fasten v. F. - hadbol&, in which plaintiff sought to recover £5Ol for alleged slander, was heard at the Palmerston supreme Court yesterday, before a jury of twelve and Judge Edwards. Counsel for the claimant called Frederick Easton, Geo. Gray, W. Howie, and Percy Easton as witnesses in support of his case. For the defence, evidence was given by Charles Easton, George Bides, Hugh N. Canned, and the defendant, w,ho denied' having uttered the words complained of. The Judge spmmed up strongly in favour of defendant, and the jury, after ten minutes retirement, returned with a verdict in his favour, for .whom judgment was declared, with costs according to scale against the claimant.
