Encourage Local Industry.
FARMERS’ UNION RESOLUTIONS. Christchurch, Sept. 20. The executive ot the North Canterbury Farmers’ Union to-day received a deputation from the implement manufactures re the Har vester Trust. After the position had been discussed the following motion was adopted by the executive : —“ (1) That the proposal to move Parliament to impose prohibitive customs duties on imported farm implements and machinery is premature ; {2) That no sufficient reasons have yet been shown tor any special legislation aimed at the International Harvester Trust Co., of America; (3) That the executive recommends members of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union and farmers generally to encourage and support as far as possible the purchase and use of New Zealand made farm implements and machinery, and thus encourage local industry.” Copies of the resolution were ordered to be sent to the Premier, members of Cabinet, all M.’sH.R. and colonial and provincial executives of the Union.
