Chamber of Commerce.

The monthly meeting of the Coun c ; l of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday, and attended by Messrs A. Fraser, P. Hennessy, F. W. Frankland, 0. L. Barnard, G. H. Stiles, and E. Moore. In the absence of the President (Mr G. A. Simpson), the Viee-President (Mr A. Fraser) tool; the chair.

A quantity of correspondence Wft'read, including applications to Sir Joseph'Ward for improvements to the sanatorium, to the Marine Department for assistance to the pilot at the heads and improvements ‘o th« river banks, to the Levin Chamber of Commerce in regard to ft Fox ton - Levin mail service, to J. Vile, M.H.R, forwarding a resolution urging upon the Government the extension of the Foxton wharf ; al correspondence with the Palmerston North, Levin, andFeilding Chambers of Commerce on the same subject. Replies to these applications from various departments were also vca It was resolved to a«k the Railw v D p .rtmenfc if any opposition weal: ho made to any steps taken locally for the formation of a Harbour Board for the control of the wharf md improvements to the river, also t,o apply to the Department of Lands and Survey in regard <o further planting being done to stop drifting cand at the Sanatorium. On M l ' Frankland’s motion it was decided to ask the Chambers of Commerce »i Palmerston and Peilding to ccoperate with the Foxton Chamber through their respective members to get the Government m p ace a sum on the supplementary estimates for planting at the Sanatorium, and it was also decided that Mr Vile be written to on the same subject. It was further decided that the Postal Departm nt be requisitioned in regard to a Levin-Foxton mai «ervice with a proviso that it did no interfere with the Foxton-Shannon seryice. - The quarterly general meeting of the Chamber will be held in the Masonic Hall on Monday, 25tb September, when the business will include an addr - from the President on the quarter’s work.
