Wi Keera le Kanae, a Ngatitoa chief, died near Ponrua on Friday. An old Maori named Hira Maeke, ot the Ngatiawa tribe, died at Otaki last week.
We understand that Mr John Cameron, of the local auctioneering firm of Messrs Wyatt Clark and Co., has been offered an appointment in the service of the New York Life Insurance Co. Mr Cameron’s general business experience and energy should prove of mutual benefit to himself and the company, and the genial “Jack” should find no more difficulty in “ taking lives ’’ than in “ knocking down ” things when he is on the warpath for “ bids." Mr Mclntosh, District Railway Engineer, has been transferred from Wanganui to Auckland. Mr Biss, of Auckland succeeds him.
Bro. Fox preached at All Saints’ Church on Sunday evening, when he addressed a tew words ot formal farewell to the congregation. He has n»w severed his official connection with the parish, but will probably assist by taking a few services before finally leaving the district.
