ADDRESS TO YOUNG MEN. The Methodist Church was well filled on Sunday evening to listen to Mr Feafherston’s address to young men, and for fully half-an-hour young and old listened with the closest attention. A prominent feature in the congregation was the splendid proportion of young men present. The first point emphasised was : “We need young men of the right stamp because so much of the world’s' welfare depends upon young men.” Whilst he would not like to say one disparaging word about the influence of women upon the life of the community, Mr Featherston said at ■lie same time he would not like to see them underestimate the influence of roving men. The advantages enjoyed md the possibilities within the reach of the youth of (o-day were briefly touched upon ; there being no position to which the capable young man might not aspire with a fair hope of success, 'tut the men to fill these positions of trust ought to bo those whose principles were incorruptible, whose integrity was undoubted, whose lives were above the shadow of suspicion. V strong plea was also put forth for the lovelopmcnt of the whole man, physical, intellectual and spiritual. The tendency with the majority was to develop only one or two of these. Whilst himself a firm believer in all manly sports and ixercises he was sorry to see the intellectual and spiritual so often crushed out. Ho was pleased to note the attitude of tho church to young men as evidenced hy the institutions providing healthful recreation for mind and body as well as attention to purely spiritual needs. Tho last point “How to get young non of the right stamp” owing to the lack of time had to be dpalt with very briefly. The answer was to be found in the second part of the text, Psalm 119-0 “hy taking heed thereto according to Thy word,” i.e,, by making the Bible our rule of conduct. In conclusion Mr Featherston urged voung men not to think that because a vonng man read Ids Bible and attended prayer meetings that ho was therefore a nainby pamby kind of individual. He gave several illustrations in support of In's argument t othe contrary
