Public School Cadet Inspection.
On Tuesday morning Col. Loveday, officer commanding N.Z. Public -chool Cadets, carried out his annual inspection of the local school cadets. The parade state of the corps under inspection read; 1 captain, 1 lieutenant, 1 colour-sergeant, 3 sergeants, 4 corporals, 2 buglers, 1 drummer and 29 privates. The system of inspection was very thorough being carried out under six headings, all but signalling being taken up by the local cadets. The possible marks under each heading was 10, and from the following marks gained it will be seen that the corps has reached an exceedingly gratifying state of efficiency Appearance 9, sergeants 9, commands 9, manual drill 9, marching 9, steadiness 10, buglers 7 (all the calls not known), firing exercises 8, skirmishing 9, Total 79. Average 8-7. la classifying the results 10 signifies “excellent,” 9 “very good,” 8 “good,” 7 “fair,” 5 “indifferent.” It’ will be seen that the average worked nut at a point or two below very good.
One mark was lost for appearance owing to a want of uniformity in the colour of the knickers worn by the boys, blue being the desired colour.
In concluding his inspection Col. Loveday, whose sympathetic manner has endeared him to the cadets throughout the colony, complimented the boys on their performance, telling them, inter alia, that ha was satisfied they were going to do well when he saw them fall in.
