Chamber Of Commerce.
A meeting of the Council of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce was held last evening, there being present Messrs G. A. Simpson (chairman), Alf. Eraser, P. Mennessy, G. Nye, and R. Moore (secretary). Apologies tor evidence were forwarded by Messrs F. W. Fraukland and G. H. Stiles. WHARF EXTENSION. The Minister for Railways informed the Chambo/ that the matter of extension of the wharf was being looked into. Some discussion followed on the subject of formation of a harbour board. It was resolved to draw the attention of the visiting parliamentarians to particulars regarding harbour matters, NEW MEMBERS. The followingwere elected ;—Messrs A. Speirs, H. Austin, L. Wilson, and J. F. Overend. SANATORIUM. It was decided to again urge the Tourist Department to make a grant for planting at the sanatorium. THE RIVER. Mr Fraser moved that the Marine Department be urged to appoint an assistant pilot. Owing to the increase in shipping the pilot could not inspect the river" and take soundings after freshes, so as to locate any alterations in the channel. Mr Hennesy seconded the motion, which was carried.
Mr Hennesy moved that the atten tion oi the Marine Department be ,cMled to sand drift into the river, and need for protection of river bank from | the south soit to Wirokino bridge. I The continuous drift had the effect of ! altering the channel. ■ Seconded by the chairman, and 1 carried. The Council adjourned.
