Fire in the Avenue.

ANGLICAN VICARAGE DES

TROYED

Shortly Jtftffr midnight a fire was discovered in a cpachouse attache All Saints' VicaragS jsl Avenue road, and by two o’clock thr’iS morning building was a mass of house, which was contained eleven rooms, was’ •ne, and the flames made rapid p r * gress, so that after the inmates ha*-. got out safely little could be done beyond saving a few of the more accessible articles of furniture. ■ Rev, H. F. Wilson had not retired when he noticed the outbreak, and_be and Dr Paterson, who was staying with him for the night, proceeded to see to the safety of Mrs Wilson and ai servant, who were accommodated by friends. Several persons soon arrive® on the scene, but, as already stated, little could be done in the way of salvage owing to the rapidy with which the flames proceeded on the work of destruction. The building was owned by th« Anglican Church trustees, and was insured in the Alliance office for £3OO. There was also a policy over the con* tents, the amount of which was not ascertainable this morning. No theory can be advanced by Mr Wilson as to the cause of the fire, whice broke out in the coach house, where no fire is ever used. Mr Wilson is a heavy loser by the fire.
