Football.
If Wellington consent, Manawatn will play them for the Ranfurly Shield, on July 29th, at Wellington. In th e case of a charge of abusive language used by an Iwiroa player in a recent match, the Manawatu Union held the complaint was not proven. Mr Jack Manning, of Palmerston North, will act as referee in Saturday's match at Foxton. Old Boys will want to be on the alert and send forth a strong team, as Huia are said to have improved considerably since last seen out.
The team to represent Old Boys against Huia on Saturday will be picked from the following :—P. Robinson, A. and F. Shadbolt, Barker, J. and A. Dunn, K. Furrie, Marshall, Rice, Lee, Hooker, Proctor, Curtis, Desmond, S. and F. Wright, Newth, Rakena, G. Coley, Saville.
Should the Manawatu Union wish to complete the Shield matches prior to their southern tour, Foxton teams will only play three rounds for the Simpson Cup. That would only allow for one match between the sectional winners. Possibly, the finals will have to he decided after the southern tour, which will allow of four rounds being played by the Foxton end. Through some misunderstanding, Old Boys did not claim th* use of the Public Hall last night, This is to be lamented, as several eager enthusiasts rolled up. In fret, two prominent forwards rode a distance of seven miles double-banked in order to be present. Surely the club management can be prepared in future for such players as these ?
