Town Improvements.

MR E. A. COLEV'S RESIDENCE. The prosperity of a town is largely made apparent to the stranger by the mariner in which its inhabitant* live, and it is always matter for congratulation when one dUsCt've’s flew residences of a better class replacing the less pretentious houses that have served the purpose of homes in the Et)jftoo.hfts of late years begun to show a fair of houses with more claim to SiTbiteetural adornment, and among the lateSf of these may be noted a new residence of eight rooms built for Mr E. A. Coley. The house stands in a spacious allotment facing Coley street, presenting a neat appearance. On entering from a broad verandah running the lull length of the housefront the visitor finds himsClt in a roomy hall 7ft x 10ft, off which Open a drawing room 12ft x 13ft and a bedroom 12ft x 12ft. Passing on through an archway and traversing a passage 4ft wide, three other bedrooms are seen, also the dining room, 19ft x 15ft. From this access is obtained direct to the kitchen, iglt x 13ft, fitted with every convenience in the way of range, hot and cold water, and Sinks, etc. A bath-room, provided with hot and cold water, is also conveniently' situated. The rooms throughout are tastefully the ceilings being panelled and varnished, and a complete acetylene gas service is installed. At the back are handily placed washhouse, fitted with copper and tubs set in, generator house, and other outbuildings. Altogether the house (a compact one measuring 48ft x 34ft under the one roof) and accessories furnish a very comfortable home, and great credit is due to the builder (Mr Arthur S.Jonson), who has carried out his work most faithfully. Painting and paperhanging, in the hands of Mr J. Hunter, and the plumbing by a Palmerston North firm have all given satisfaction to the owner, who is to be congratulated upon having such a fine house to replace the home from which he was burned out some months ago.
