Accordingly it Was decided to arrange for a lecture o'n “ Old New Zealand: peeps into the untrodden The secretary was instructed to c’orrirntunicate with Mr Nott, and arrange did date of the lecture, , The difficulty of procuring books for two of the future meetings was brought fonvard by one of the members, and it was! proposed that the books be abandoned for Cithers easier to procure. The matter, however* was left over for the committee to deal with* . . The subject for the evening, which was “ IniDroniptu Debating ” was then proceeded with; Sortie Ot the subjects discussed were i—* 1 Would state com trol be a solution of thd liquor traffic T “ Is it advisable that avdilrtds o'f itceS be planted along country roaod ? “Is a State bank desirable ?” “Is the Stale Fire Insurance desirable ?” and " Tho merits and demerits of Oliver Cromwell.” These subjects were discussed with much warmth by the members, and altogether a most enjoyable evening was Spent. It was 1 decided that a deputation, consisting of the President, ReV. Wilson and Mr Barnard, anti th'C secretary, wait on the Foxton Borough Council requesting them to include some works other than fiction in their selection of new books for the public library. Messrs Murray, Cameron, and Frew, who were nominated at a previous meeting, were elected members of the society. The meeting then adjourned with a vote of thanks to the chair.
