“ By Truk Sport.'' Mr J. Frew is the latest addition to the Manawatu Referees Association. In all probability. Mr J. Manning will referee in the Old Boys-Huia match at Foxton next Saturday. Awahou are sending a team to compete in the seven-a-side tournament at Palmerston football sports on Monday. It is a pity Old Boys could not master seven to compete. Them via topic in football circles throughout the Manawatu the past week is the appeal to the Manawatu Rugbv Union lodged by Mr G. V Dunn against the life disqualification cast upon him by the Foxton Executive, The “ man in the street ” is, as usual, full of information on the matter, and I am led to understand many wagers have been made on different points connected with the affair. Having been privileged to inspect, like “ Goal-post ” in last night’s “ Standard,” I am forced to admit that the appeal is powerfully constructed, and it js no wonder tha f the main body, after lending a patient ear to such a grammatical masterpiece, decided to re open the case for hearing. The appeal was so consis'ent, the Manawatu Rugby Union could do nothing else bur what they did. Still, it seems to me a sorry matter that the “terribly unjust sentence of the Foxton Executive was interfered with at the present junc ture —in many ways. Still, the appeal has been made, and it now remains for the offending player to substantiate his grounds by producing evidence in his favour which will prove effective. The Executive have been forced to act with determination and accuracy, and, as a result, quite a number of influential witnesses apd written statements will be despatched north by Monday morning’s train in support of their action. It is just as well that the other side should know these facts and be prepared. Judging from the nature of the appeal, the evidence is sure to be of a contradictory character, and therefore will quench the ravenous appetite of the ever blood-thirsty paper scribe. Personally speaking, knowing the full ficts of the case from every standpoint, it will not be conducive to the interests of Foxton football should the Manawatu body fail to endorse the action of their Foxton Executive.
