LAST SATURDAY’S AFFAIR.
A sp'ecial meeting of the Foxton Fxectilive of the Manawatu Rugby Union was fidld af Say wood's Hotel last night, there present r-~* Messrs H. Austin (in mbbhairh ,P. Mcßrearty, P. W. Jenks, J. TO*wpson, D. Purcell, R. Hines, A. Harperi »nd E; (j, Sutherland (secretary). The business of the meeting was to eoWsider a complaint lodged by Mr j"; Fi’Cvr, tlie referee in . last Saturday’s match, agalUsf G. Dnnn for misbehaviour. The referee attended, afld gstVe evidence in support af the and .alter much comment, it was unaninitftfsly decided “ That the player referred to be- disqualified for life' from playing id any football matches under the jurisdiction of the New Zealand Rugby Union.’’ To further show their confidence in Mr Frew’s action, that gentleman was appointed to act as referee in today’s match, Awahou v. Huia. NOTES. The Foxton Executive evidently mean to conduct football on clean lines. By disqualifying a player for life for offering insult to a raieree they have takeri & Stand which is to h e commended, and w 8 hops the result of the inquiry will do a lot of good for football in the district. When liftruly footballers learn that matches are not entirely in their own hands, then will the best interests of the game be done justice, not only by players themselves but by the public, whose support cannot be reasonably expected if matters are allowed to be carried on in ship-shod fashion. We feel sure the general public of Foxton relish the fact that no vandalism is to be allowed to creep into Foxton football At least, the Executive mean such not to be.
Huia are reported to have been training hard this past week. Well done! Pity the other two teams do not follow in their wake !
