Fire in Coley Street.

DESTRUCTION OF A DWELLI .G. At about half-past five o’clock this morning, resident* of Foxton were aroused by the sound of the fire-bell, which directed them to the scene of a conflagration in Coley street—a dwelling-house occupied by Mr and Mrs J. Campbell There being no water service handy, the building soon became reduced to ashes, and all that is left standing to-day are two brick chimneys. We understand Mrs Campbell was away on a holiday, and that at the time of the fire there were no occupants in the house. It is supposed that Mr Campbell, who is working at one of the mills a few miles from town, but who was in town last night used a fire to make an early breakfast this morning, and that a spark from that fire has caused the damage, But this is mere supposition, as no one appears to know for certain whether Mr Campbell was near his house or not. However, the occupiers were heavy losers, as absolutely nothing was saved. little attempt was made to save the building, the equipments being totally inadequate. Mr Clark Dunn, of Shannon, owned the building. [We have since learned that Mr Campbell left his house between 9 and 10 o’clock for the mill and that there was £SO insurance on the furniture.]
