King Edward, while lunching with Marquis Brefeuil, at Paris, conversed for an hour with M. Delcasse, Minister of Foreign Affairs. Foreman H. S, Wonlcott has resigned from the Wellington Fire Brigade, after thirty years’ unbroken service. The cause of resignation was ill-health. Mr T, McKenzie addressed the <M°etors of Rongotea riding of the Manawatn County on Monday, Mr James Penny being in the chair. The candidate gave an interesting and lucid account of the district’s wants, and indicated how, in his oninion, great improvement could be effected in the management of the Council. Questions were invited and satisfactorily replied to. Mr Dalton, the opposing candidate, stated his views to the meeting on the invitation of Mr McKenzie.
Mr Massey, leader of the Opposition, interviewed before leaving Christchurch for the North, said he (bought he saw a marked change in the attitude of the country towards the Opposition since his last visit to the South, Tie did not care to make a prophecy, but he would be much surprised if Canterbury and Otago, at the next general election, did not make an emphatic declaration in favour of pare and honest government. He was convinced, after his tour, that there was a general and honest demand for the freehold in tiie country. AH the talk of revaluation had created a feeling of insecurity in the country.
