It is freely asserted that if Bill Hooker retains the form he produced at Wellington on Easter Saturday, he will get a place in the Manawatu Rep. team. Keep in form, Bill.
Palmersto/o North should decide one important fixture this present season—that o,t Australia and Manawatu. Probably we may get a teat match. Who knows ? “ Viinit ” in the Manawatu Standard, «ays i—Oh di.t—that “ Bill ” Warner, " 'Vom " Cross, and " Bunny ” Abbott v,HI don the jorsey tor the Palmerston Club this year. Next 1 The Manawatu Rugby Union has granted authority to Mr E. G. Sutherland to compile the Annual for 1905, and the production is expected to be issued in about three week’s time. The “book" published by Mr Sutherland last year was a credit to himself and tha Union, and gave complete satisfaction to all concerned, and this year’s Annual, 1 understand, will even surpass Vue initial efforts of the compiler last year. Mr Sutherland is a keen enthusiast on matters pertaining to ail descriptions of sport, and bis work should meet with the reward it so thoroughly deserves.—From " Yenit’s " Standard budget. Severe, yet truthful, were the remarks made by the captain-elect of the Levin Wanderers at the annual meeting the other night“ From a moral point of view,” he said, “football in this district is going back. I attribute thi* to the semi-professionalism that ila* been creeping into the club for the past few years. Some players expect to be found in boots, jerseys, and even their subscription paid before they will play for the club. Only ten out of thirty members paid their subscription last year." Another speaker said the object seemed to prevail to “ elect as many vice-presidents as possible with a view to securing half-guineas; there was no honour attached to the office." This straight from-the-shoulder talk apparently had the desired effect, as, at the conclusion of the meeting, £7 8s (outstanding subs) were banded to the secretary, and the remaining defaulters posted to the Union.
