Russia and Japan. DOINGS AT SEA. CRUISERS STILL LINGERING IN ANNAM. London, April 27. The “Daily Mail” states that mumber of Russian cruisers were out•side Kamranh Bay on Monday, and 'two three-funnelled vessels were inside the bay. The cable has been cut near Hainan, and Russians are suspected. LAND CAMPAIGN, RUSSIANS SUFF'ER AT KAIYUANLondo' , April 27. The Japanese defeated the Russians in an fcfWonnter at Kaiyuan, killing two (hundred. The Japanese casualties rmmbered thirty-eight. After the encounter at Kaiyuan two Russian, columns, after advancing from Vlsiaotatse and attacking Changtu, Returned north. General Linevitch reports that a •determined but futile attack was made on Kaiyuan and Changtu. This movement is regarded at St.. Petersburg as a diversion intended to l -check the Japanese movements towards Vladivostok, possibly presaging ithat the Russians will take the offensive.
The first Japanese train has reached Mukden over a temporary bridge across the Hun river. It is stated at St. Petersburg that Chunchuses are making a diversion in ithe west, while Japanese troops are pouring in on the east towards Kirin and Ninguta (an important military post east of Kirin, on the HarpingVladivostock railway), with the object of isolating Vladivostock.
