The Water Question.

A REPORT. REFERRED TO THE NEW COUNCIL. The report of the water supply committee on its labours was laid before the Borough Council last evening, as follows : " According to your instructions the committee appointed by the ratepayers to consider and report on the question of a wafer supply, waited, in conjunction with Cr Symons, on Mr John Robinson at his residence on the 30th March, and subsequently inspected with him the proposed site for a trial bore. Mr Robineon desired that the trial bore be made on the north sideot the hill instead of the south as originally proposed; and after some consideration the committee concluded that this would be the better side as it was more accessible from the road. The reason why the south side was originally proposed was that it is about 15 feet rower than the north side, and accordingly it would not be necessary to bore so far on that side. Mr Robinson agreed (0 sell an acre more or less at the place required, the price to be considered by him. He intimated that he would write to your Council stating the price at which he was prepared to sell.” Cr Speirs thought it a pity if the stipulation regarding boring on the north side of the hill should be adhered to.
