Dr Graham, of Palmerston North* was a visitor to Foxton yesterday. Mr Callaghan, the gifted baritone, will be among the vocalists at Monday night’s concert. Mr and Mrs H. Fielder leave Wellington on April Bth on an extended trip to the Old Country. Mr J. H, B. Coates, general manager of the National Bank, returned to Wellington on Saturday from his visit to England. The Premier arrived at the Thame* on Sunday. He was welcomed by the Mayor and Councillors, No public business was transacted. The Premier proceeded to Rotorua by special train. The Hon J, Kigg addressed a large public meeting at Taihapeon Saturday night in the interests of the Political Labour League. The meeting wa* tumultuous at times. Mr Rigg denied that he Wanted to weaken the Liberal party. At the dose forty member* were enrolled and an executive formed. Mr H. Austin was appointed, at a meeting of householders last evening, as a delegate to represent the Foiton School Committee at the conference of all local bodies at Palmerston today, the object in view being to make the railway to the Foxton beach become an accomplished fact. Mr W. R. Hutchison, who has acted in the capacity of preacher to the Presbyterian Churches in Foxton and the surrounding districts, left yesterday for the Ashburton district. During a stay of twelve months, Mr Hutchison has been a willing and able worker, and his departure will be regretted by many. His successor, Mr A. D. Spiers, who hails from Picton, conducted his first service here otl Sunday morning. The Rev., Father O’Halloran, of Kumara, has returned from an extended tour through America and Europe. Speaking ot his visit to Ireland, Father O’Halloran says that the prospects of that country are much brighter. The Land Act he described as a modified form of Home Rule. The Emigration from Ireland, however, is continuing at a serious rate. As an instance, he says that ha saw the White Star liner Baltic leave Queen*town with 3000 emigrants, who intended to begin life anew in America.
